Why do you want to serve on the CMCM Board of Directors?
I have a passion for broadcast television, broadcast design, video and positive, inspirational content. With over 25 years of experience as a professional in the industry (which actually amounts to over 75 years if you count all of the hours spent in production), I find CMCM to be a treasure and essential resource for creativity, information, and education for the community. I find this to be a great opportunity to contribute and connect with people and community through something I love - the magic of television!
Being a Greek American woman designer/art director in the television broadcast industry starting in the 1980s has offered me a unique perspective. I will offer representation of a television professional in the creative field, women in the arts, and ethnicity.
After years of designing news graphics which were mostly about deaths, shootings, “if it bleeds, it leads” mentality, I promised myself that I would create art and design that was uplifting, inspirational, educational and life affirming. I feel that CMCM is a great tool for this type of creative, positive content and I want to contribute to that.
What relevant experience do you bring to this board position?
I’ve been a member of CMCM and here are some of the things I’ve done at the center:
• Instructor for CMCM’s “Ask the Experts” series — successful classes - “Secrets of Set Styling” and ”Design Your Logo”.
• Volunteer for the anniversary event
• Volunteer for several Marin County Fair events
• Volunteer for production team/set design for “Ingenious Baby”
• Original Design and Animation “ZoeTV” has been broadcast on CMCM
Here’s an overview of some of my experience:
• Winner of 6 Regional Emmy awards and 12 International BDA/BPME/ProMAX* awards in art
direction, design, motion graphics and set design
• Honored with a ProMAX Lifetime Achievement award
• Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design
• Clients include CBS, ABC, HBO, Univision and Telemundo television broadcast networks
• First female Director of Design and Graphics in the history of Hispanic broadcast network television and I’m Greek!
• One of an exclusive group of broadcast designers to be on the cutting edge of digital design and computer graphics
• Cover design, animation and graphics for a video for the President Jimmy Carter Library
• Owner/founder/entrepreneur of 4 small businesses (3 presently in operation)
• Original jewelry designs and original illustrated book sold at the J. Paul Getty Villa Museum Shop,
Malibu, CA
What is your vision for CMCM and how will you achieve it?
Build a greater awareness of CMCM in the community. I recommend a brand image campaign, creative promos and identifications and more. Upgrading CMCM’s identity and promoting it will attract new membership, increase visibility and donations and inspire quality content.
* BDA/ProMax International is short for Broadcast Designers Association/Broadcast Promotion and Marketing Executives
